TOPS Incentive Development

Research has shown that science which is conducted in the open, and results which are freely shared, have an increased scientific impact. Open research is cited more, shared more, and contributes more to the work of others. However, it can be difficult for researchers to transition to doing open science due to institutional barriers, lab practices, or even industry practices. To try to ease this transition, TOPS is working with partners to develop additional incentives for engaging in open science.

  • TOPS is working to develop Open Science Badges that apply to the OpenCore curriculum. Our vision is that every module will have an associated micro-badge, and that a "grand badge" will be available for those who complete all five modules. More details on badges here.
  • TOPS is partnering with other organizations to develop high-profiel awards in support of open science research. More information on these awards will be available in Fall 2022.
  • TOPS is working to identify funding opportunities aimed at advancing open science as well as supporting researchers conducting their work in the open.
