I can confirm this is still happening with v4.5.4, with the addition that taking a php-file and stripping the extension gets it correctly recognized as php (with the nice small logo). The identical file with the .php extension is not recognized.

hi,
with current git i just threw a php file into the dir and the texteditor won't open it. the icon is a blank sheet and not liek a text file, may this be related?

I have the same issue on my ownCloud installation. In Fact this also happens with Javascript- (.js) and Less-Files (.less). Probably there are more filetypes that are not opened by the editor, but I have only tested those. Btw: CSS files are working as expected ;)
