Nextcloud Windows Client deletes files and folders #289
Comments
Do you have any client logs? |
Unfortunately not. |
I had this issue 3 times on Linux, 1 time on MacOS, 1 time on Windows. I keep having this issue again and again right now with some random subfolders: I start with an empty Nextcloud folder on my PC (Linux), I synchronize a folder with all its subfolders (but one), it gets synchronized, then after a while it deletes some random subfolders. I'm investigating on why it keeps happening, usually with the same subfolders. I've done Thank God all those files remained on the server and I've got some backups. However this is utterly annoying. Nextcloud is supposed to keep our data safe, which implies not deleting them randomly -- duh! On a side note, the total of the files to synchronize is always wrong, but I guess the whole client should be rewritten at this point. I'm really really mad right now because it's not rocket science guys and you are a company with a dedicated team to develop this software. You should deliver code at a professional level. EDIT: please open this issue back because I'm going to work on it and it's pretty darn serious. This should be top priority right now, like nuclear alert at Nextcloud GmbH, "Hey! Some clients are losing their data randomly! Let's fix that ASAP!" EDT 2: and please change the title to remove "Windows" since all platforms are affected. |
Hi @cluxter, if we can't reproduce an issue and have no logs, there's not much point in having an open issue in github. Github is not for support (we have https://portal.nextcloud.com for that) but for development. As for your problem, please, try the 2.5 version of our client, you can find an RC here: https://download.nextcloud.com/desktop/prereleases/ RC2 is going to be the same as final. It has many fixed issues and we're not planning any more releases in the 2.3.x series, so this is the way to go forward for users who have problems with 2.3.3. |
Today I have the same problem. All my files (10 GB) deleted from my Windows 10 Computer and now it is sync alle files again… What going on there? I test the 2.5 now too. :( |
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, OMG I NEED TO REDOWNLOAD 500GB over my terrible internet connection. This is horrendous, how can this be happening? Is this a Beta release, why did I upgrade? |
Same here 50GB disappeared ... guess it would be goot to reopen the issue! |
Same issue reported here: #260 |
Thanks Dennis1993 |
Happening again. FIX IT ASAP |
Im Using NC 19.0.3 with Client 3.0.1on Windows 7/Windows10. Some folders are suddenly not synced and empty. Only conflicted files are left over. This happens twice in one week and is absolutely not working anymore. Has been fine for now some years, but since 2,3 weeks I cannot really trust the sync. |

Problem description
I had my laptop running as usual, and when I came back after a few hours and checked my folders, I realized, that there are a lot of files and folders missing.
Looking at the Sync Protocol of the Nextcloud Client (see the next image), I could see that Nextcloud had started deleting randomly folders and files (in total over 80GB). They were completely gone from my computer.
After deletion, the client started to sync the files again. Looking at the web interface of the Nextcloud Server, I could see that no files have been affected. All of this occured locally.
