These are because that term was when the SDP and Liberals merged, and Wikidata already has two P39s for each of the people that affected, e.g.
Verification Pages is generally doing the right thing here by reporting that there are multiple P39s (although "spanning terms" is a quite confusing way of explaining that), however not everyone is being shown like that: multiple people (e.g. David Steel) are being shown solely as having a party conflict (as WP has them elected as the Liberal-Democrat Alliance, whereas WD has the individual parties. But that's the same for both David Steel and Cyril Smith in the above example, so I think they should both be showing both errors)
