I have a crazy and fun idea. Personally, I do not think it will work, but it would have been fun if it is possible to do in a future update. What if you could pair a ROM file with any game from any console in any way, such like Super Mario 64, to DOSBox-X, so you could go through your DOSBox directory with, for example, Super Mario from the mentioned game? 2D games like Super Mario Bros. would of course make the advanced and the unique DOSBox experience very limited, I know.
I got the idea by watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idHGg_O6Hzg
Sorry if the idea seems n00bish.

DOSBox-X is intended as a DOS emulator, so you can play DOS (or PC-98) games in it, or non-gaming DOS applications. Non-DOS console games have nothing to do with this, so while the idea may be fun by itself, I do not think this will actually happen in any foreseeable future. Thanks for the interesting idea though.

Meanwhile, I want to add that in case there exists a game emulator for the desired console(s) for the DOS platform, such as NES and SNES emulators, you can certainly run them in DOSBox-X. For example, you can associate NES files with DOS version of ZSNES to run in DOSBox-X. Note however that running emulators inside emulators will slow down things, and many newer console emulators may not have DOS versions so they won’t run inside DOSBox-X anyway.
