Especially if you ask people for contributions, easy to find license information is important

(BTW: Neat project!)

Thanks, I'm not an expert on the matter and would love to hear some suggestions!
I'm looking for a licence that will give anyone the right to deploy their own instance and change it but will still keep this repository as something central for people to sync with and contribute new features.

Is there a licence model that will help encourage this kind of flow?

Github made this handy site showing the most popular options:

http://choosealicense.com/

If you really want to force people to share their changes there's also the AGPL (which requires people that put an instance online to share the changes they make to the server side as well), but that IMHO has higher chances of dissuading people from using it in the first places, since it is unfamiliar and there is a lot of uncertainty about what it entails exactly.
