There are a number of issues with the current style that make rendering of polar regions quite problematic - often up to the point where the map is hardly usable as a tool of validation any more.

I have summarized the various issues on a wiki page:

If you've got specific change requests please open them, but there's about a dozen changes there, some of which probably need to be issued against mapnik or carto, not this project. You can link them to this one with issue numbers, but this issue by itself isn't specific enough to act on.

My primary intent here is to make those working on the rendering style aware of the problems described in the hope these issues are considered in future style design decisions. There are a number of specific suggestions on that page that can be implemented within the style but in most cases i have no informed opinion on how exactly they should be implemented, especially since there are most likely performance issues to consider.
