I super appreciate the person who made the 4.0 region editor, it's definitely an improvement (once that nearest neighbor affected the sprites inside haha), but it may have overlooked using it as a tool for cutting icons/images out of a spritesheet.
There were several reasons I preferred doing this over say using a vec2 for icons and in 3.5 this setup was SUPER zoomy and easy to do since the region editor was part of the bottom dock (which had it's own awkwardness), however in 4 it's a painful, slow process that gave me a lot of time to have shower thoughts... godot thoughts?

I would kill for some kind of implementation that changes this because to be honest I still prefer .tres files over hundreds of pngs. (Saving them all separately in Aseprite would be JUST as if not more painful). If we can make it so you don't have to close it every. single. time. That would be amazing, but if it can't be done then I'm good with something else!
Secondly, it re-centers the view every single time.... so when you're zoomed in- it hurts me. xD
3.x
Thanks for listening to my godot thoughts, I'm going to go back to cutting out icons now.
Here's an example of this process in 3 vs 4:
