I have picked this back up and hope I can get it into Collect very soon. Progress can be tracked at getodk/javarosa#430

The feature is slated to be released in Collect v1.23. Here is a description of the behavior and instructions for trying it out.

Here is a forum thread about the XLSForm syntax. It's pending final approval on naming. Since the general approach is agreed on, I've filed XLSForm/pyxform#336.

Requires Collect v1.23 and XLSForm Online ≥ v1.6.1, XLSForm Offline ≥ v1.11.1 or pyxform ≥ v0.15.1.
