Description

Protocol associations exist, but Windows Settings doesn’t list Brave as an app that can open the protocol.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install Brave.
  2. Win+R, type ipfs://something, and press Enter

Actual result:

Windows prompts me to find an app that supports the protocol in the Microsoft Store. It doesn't recognize Brave as an app that can open the protocol

Expected result:

IPFS should open and attempt to open the URL.

Reproduces how often:

Every time.

Brave version (brave://version info)

1.27.109 Chromium: 92.0.4515.115

Other Additional Information:

Relates to issue #13266.

Brave’s supported protocols in the Windows Settings app.

Going to the Windows Settings app: Apps: Default apps: Brave lists both the IPFS: and IPNS: protocols. However, I can’t select Brave as a handler for either protocols. Other protocols, including HTTP: and HTTPS: work fine.

Reproduced while going through #17181. Ran into the same exact issue. Attempting to launch via Run using the following will ask you to launch the MS store to find an application that can open ipfs://. Example:

  • launch Run via Win + R
  • open ipfs://bafkreigcnxudvpojjfwncmauociy5q46zsq46oe66cxbyzie3imabuoege

You'll get the following:

Also getting the same result as @da2x re: MS store modal appearing when attempting to pick Brave as the default application for ipfs://. Example:

  • go into Default apps --> Set defaults by apps
  • select Brave from the list and click on Manage
  • scroll down to IPFS and click on Choose a default

You'll get the following:
