SE Linux can prevent Canopy from seeing directories are writeable. In theory, network/sys admins know this. But it is a trouble shooting item one can check off if things don't want to behave.

Ah so your sys admins finally implemented selinux. lol. Yeah you have to have the httpd_sys_rw_content_t context on any directory /files you need your web user to be able to write too.

Less implemented and more on by default with REHL. We spun up a new VM and forgot about setting it up for that.
